Post license mn

Interesting question though indeed Comment Post Cancel. Left this out sorry but up til that 3 years looks like 48 hours of continuing ed. To keep your license in inactive status, you need to keep up your continuing education hours. As for the PT license, it's not going away. With three straight bienniums of budget reductions, they have bigger priorities.

That budget provides funding for them to employ a specific number of people. The can't just add someone to their staff because he speaks three languages or has a neat haircut. Get rid of them. They just take OT away from me. I can't decide whether to pull the pin and retire altogether, or keep it inactive in case I want a pt gig for extra cash.

It is set to expire in June Even then, however, it seemed a little bit odd to me that there was a Part Time Peace Officer License. I guess as a comparison, I really can't think of any other licensed occupation in Minnesota that limits the number of hours you can work. You are either licensed or not and aren't restricted on the number of hours you work.

My other thought is there are so many people in Minnesota now that are either licensed or eligible to be licensed as Full Time Peace Officers, why even have the Part Time Peace Officer category?

I think having people do the job that don't meet the same requirements as Full Time Peace Officers are at a greater risk of making mistakes that licensed Full Time Officers are less likely to make. I realize that the argument in the Minnesota Legislature some 30 plus years ago was that a chief or sheriff might have difficulty getting someone to work less that full time if they are fully licensed, but I don't see that as being a strong argument any longer. I think the other argument back when was that the chief or sheriff should be able to hire someone from the community because they know them and should have to be restricted by pre-service requirements.

People who have earned a degree from a regionally accredited college or university do not need to complete another degree even if their degree is not related to criminal justice or law enforcement.

They do, however, need to complete the professional peace officer education provided by a POST Board certified school. Some POST certified schools have special programs especially intended to meet the needs of people who already have a degree.
